In an effort to foster meaningful dialogue and reflection on responsible creativity in today’s global landscape, we have embarked on a collaborative journey bridging the worlds of fashion and art. For this collaborative endeavour, we are delighted to partner with Singapore-born artist Nabilah Nordin to create a series of artworks featuring original Charles & Keith designs reimagined as sculptures designed and created by Nabilah.
Nabilah Nordin's design language and philosophy infuse the sculptures with a sense of creativity and purpose, further emphasizing the importance of responsible creativity in today's world. Through this collaboration, we hope to inspire dialogue, reflection, and appreciation for the intersection of fashion, art, and sustainability, promoting positive change within the industry and beyond.
Have you thought the leftover fabric could be transformed into a bag by coiling?
We put a lot of thought into creating works demonstrating our creativity and its connection to craftsmanship within Australian architecture and sculpture. By utilising the coiling technique, our bag was sculpted with voluminous, curvilinear forms reminiscent of architectural and sculptural elements. This represents our fusion of traditional and modern methodologies, highlighting the adaptability of various techniques across diverse artistic disciplines.
Have you noticed the silhouettes of Australian landmarks in these designs?
Our inspiration stems from the Sydney Opera House, a breathtaking fusion of architectural elegance and contemporary footwear design. Crafted with sleek lines reminiscent of the Opera House's sail-like structures, these shoes and bags feature a stunning asymmetrical silhouette that captures the essence of Sydney's waterfront marvel. The smooth curves and angles mimic the graceful arcs of the Opera House's rooflines, evoking a sense of modernity.
We carefully observed the structures of famous Australian architecture and touched and felt the delicate and masterful lines of Nabilah Nordin's sculptures. We incorporated these details into the silhouettes of shoes and bags to create distinct yet memorable works of art for this collaboration. Whether adorned with swirling landscapes or abstract forms, each pair tells a unique story and carries the unmistakable mark of Nabilah Nordin's artistic genius.
